Guidelines
We’re always looking for thoughtful, curious science learners and readers who want to make scientific ideas more accessible — especially in psychology and neuroscience. If you love learning and want to help others love it too by writing clearly and honestly, we’d love to hear from you.
Want to write for Read Science? You’re in the right place.
What We’re Looking For
You don’t have to be an expert — just curious, thoughtful, and respectful of your reader’s time and attention. This means that your piece must be:
- Clear – explain the idea like you would to a friend
- Supported with Evidence – with at least 5 peer-reviewed studies/articles as references.
- Engaging – science story, reflection, explainer, or psychobiography
- Short & Focused – around 800 – 1000 words.
Topics We Love
We especially welcome:
- Articles on psychology, or neuroscience (But any scientific topic is always welcome!)
- Reflections on a scientific concept or paper
- Plain-language explainers of complex ideas
- Thoughtful pieces that connect science to life
- Stories about how science changed how you think
- Stories on how nutrition, sport (or lack of it) impact our psychology.
- Or basically any science story that you think is worth sharing with us and our readers!
📝 How to Contribute
Send us a brief message telling us:
What you want to write about, why it matters, and what readers will take away from it.
Write Your Piece
- Keep it short (800-1000 words only).
- Use this format: Time New Roman font, size 12, double spaced.
- Add “References” section at the end.
- Use at least 5 peer-reviewed studies/articles.
- Any other references that you use must be from reputable websites, even if not peer-reviewed studies.
- All references must be found on internet webpages to help readers refer to them easily.
- Add in-text hyper links to any reference you use.
- In the references section, please use the APA 7th Edition Style only.
- We accept WORD documents only.
Add a Short Bio (and maybe your photo?)
A lovely 2 or 3 sentences bio is more than awesome!
💡 Writing Tips
- Avoid jargon. If you must use a term, define it briefly (and add a reference that supports your definition).
- Use examples or analogies to explain complex ideas.
- Write like you’re having a conversation, not giving a lecture.
- Don’t worry about being perfect — we’re happy to help you edit, if needed.
🧾 What Happens After You Submit
- We’ll review your article and reply within 1–2 weeks.
- If accepted, we might suggest a few edits or clarifications.
- Once finalized, we’ll publish it on Read Science with your name and bio.
